Welcome Home Will – Take Two

Hey all – well the last 3 days have been a whirlwind.

Last Wednesday, Will started violently spitting up through his nose and mouth. I didn’t think anything of it at first but he kept doing it and each day it got progressively worse with him doing it more and more. On Sunday morning at 3am, I got up to feed him and noticed he had spit up all over his swing. I went to the bathroom to throw his blankets in the dirty clothes when I noticed there was blood in his throw up. Of course this was bad news so we called the Pediatrician on duty and she told us to take him straight to the ER. Once we got there, they did some tests on him and determined that he had Pyloric Stenosis. It’s a condition where the muscle between the stomach and intestines swells and can’t open so the baby gets no nourishment…and it is only remedied through a surgical procedure. So, yesterday at noon, Will went into surgery to have it fixed. They made an incision in his belly button and had to seperate his stomach muscles to get to the problem, but he did great and only suffered a swollen belly. He was also not allowed to eat anything so he went without any food for 30 hours which was so hard to see. He was starving and crying and there was nothing we could do. I was an absolute wreck leading up to the surgery. The surgeon told us it was a fairly safe and easy procedure but it still scared the hell out of me…especially because he’s so tiny and only a month old. We were allowed to finally feed him at 8:30 last night and he’s been able to hold everything down, so it looks like he’s on the mend. Tommy and I are completely exhausted but happy that the whole ordeal is behind us. August has been absolutely hellacious for us…hopefully things calm down a bit and September isn’t so bad!! Keep your fingers crossed!

Trying to rest - they had to put the IV in his head because they couldn't find a good vein in his arm
