Goodbye My Sweetheart, Hello Vietnam

One of my dads favorite movies of all time was “Full Metal Jacket.” He only liked the first part and when we were old enough for all the carnage, we would often watch it with him. One of the most memorable parts of the movie is in the beginning when the soldiers are getting ready to go to boot camp. They’re hauled into the barber and all their hair is shaved off. It’s done to the tune of a very memorable song in which this post is titled. How fitting for a night of shaving boys heads – Enjoy!

Look at this stinker...
My little trouble maker...
Look at this hair...what a mess!
His mop has been worse...
But he was complaining about it so we figured we better chop it off too...
Tommy started it all...he was whining about how long his hair was tonight...
So I whipped out the clippers!
Will was not interested at first...
Then he changed his mind...
His hair is so soft, it feels like silk. Crazy.
All done!!
No more shaggy dog!! I can finally see those gorgeous eyes...
What did my mom do with my hair!?
Trying to get the hair he put in his mouth (of course) out
Henry's turn...
NOT happy...he pretty much ruined it here
You would have thought we were torturing him with his shrill screams and cries for help. Sigh.
Oh Henry.
And of course, Tommy. I like the shaved look. =)

Weekend Shooting

Well, after all of us being sick for OVER A MONTH, we were finally healthy enough to get out and get some shooting in. There were some new characters added to our cast and we had a wonderful time. Perfect weather also! We are itching to do it again!

Relaxin' in the sun
Gettin' out all the good stuff
We had some kids there this time!

Spence shootin' his little .22 rifle
Matty testing out his pistol
Tommy sighting in my new eotech
Matty tried it...and LOVED it
Mar giving the shotgun a go

Me and my baby =)
Gave me a little bruise after 30 rounds
Look at this mountain man...doin' some home defense scenarios

My go...

Learning defensive techniques
And how to move with the gun

Simon doing the same stuff with the rifle
Moving and shooting (and being precise) is hard!

Prayers Please

Hey all,

Just wanted to ask for your thoughts and prayers for a moment. One of my close friends, Jules, just lost her brother a month or so ago. His name was Johnny and he was an angel is disguise here on Earth. He had Down Syndrome but was able to grace us with his presence for 46 years. He was an amazing guy and I’m sad he’s gone, but grateful that he’s finally  found some peace. I hope that he’s watching over us right now and hanging out with his dad up in Heaven.

(((Love you Johnny)))

Also, our brother Scott (Holly’s husband) lost his mom this morning. Pat had a massive stroke about a week ago and had been in a coma since then. She had the beginning stages of melanoma and pnuemonia when her heart gave out early this morning. So please send vibes, thoughts and prayers Scott’s way if you could.

(((Love you Scott)))

Me and Johnny a couple years ago
Pat and Henry back in 2008

Godspeed!

Happy Thanksgiving from Bishop!

Hey everyone! How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was great – we spent it up in the beautiful town of Bishop CA among the snow covered peaks and kick ass boulders. We had a wonderful trip…although it was plagued with a few mishaps but they didn’t ruin the overall experience. I got some sort of rib injury that had me stuffing aspirin down my gob every 6 or so hours, Will fell in the trailer and got a bloody nose and black eye, Tommy screwed up his finger by smashing it in a bathroom stall and then twisting his ankle on a warm-up problem and somehow Henry got away scott free, although he did have a really bad cough from a previous cold. Top that off with ALL of us having colds, coughing our lungs up and being somewhat miserable health wise. Tommy’s cold has also morphed into a sinus infection and he’s started blowing blood out his nose. Haha. It’s hilarious to read all this. Yes, we are a MESS. =)

Aside from our ailments, the weather turned out to be fantastic and we didn’t have one bad day except our first day which was rainy and gloomy at first but quickly turned sunny after the noon hour. It was amazing. The boys were in Heaven running around getting dirty, throwing rocks and meeting new and crazy/interesting people. A couple of our good buddies, Eric and Gus, joined us out there and then we had a couple other friends come during the middle of the week.  We also met a lot of great people out there that we bouldered with as well. One guy, Greg, was from Washington and brought his beautiful dog Lya out with him. Then we met some guys from Germany who were absolutely hysterical…they were the coolest/strongest guys around. I’m kind of dissapointed with the pictures we got because some of them don’t reflect these people which I would have loved to capture, but running around after two little boys while trying to climb and take pictures and video is a tall order. We’ve decided that we’ll have to invite someone next time to strictly be our photographer/videographer. (Dawn…what are you doing next Thanksgiving?? HAHA! Just kidding – you’ve got WAY TOO MUCH on your plate. =)

Anyway, this was a wonderful trip and we had a real hard time coming home and facing reality. We’re gonna take a month or so off to try and get healthy before we get back into pulling hard. I’ve got a lot of projects I want to try out in Hueco next year and we’ll hopefully be taking another trip up to Bishop sometime next year as well to send some projects. So much to do!! It’s hard to force ourselves to rest, but we have a lot going on right now in terms of our personal lives as well as those around us, so it’s time to step back and focus on our loved ones.

Hope you all are well out there. Take care and Talk soon.

Happy Halloween!!

Finally!! I’ve been dying for Halloween to come and go so I could show you all how freaking ADORABLE Henry and Will looked in their costumes!!

Henry’s recent obsession has been Space and the planets so I thought it would be perfect if he was able to dress up as an astronaut! I had a moment of brilliance and remembered seeing a little astronuat costume at the space museum in NM when we went and saw the IMAX Everest show a while ago. Thank God my mom is awesome and doting.  She bought if for him and sent it over…and it fit perfectly!! I can totally see him being a nerdy astronaut later on in his life…he is a brain like that.

When we went costume shopping for Will, I was immediately smitten with a little Yoda outfit we found at Target. I had to take it in because it was HUGE on him but luckily the little cap fit great. I’m not a big Star Wars fan, but Tommy is and honestly the outfit was just too cute to pass up. He was definitely an adorable Yoda.

Over the weekend, Henry’s school hosted a “Monster Mash” and we decided to go and check it out. It turned out to be a total zoo, but the boys got some candy and Henry was lucky enough to see his girlfriend. (His teacher! Ha!) Then finally, tonight came…and it was action packed! We dropped by the gym to see Will and Gus (who are some of the sweetest guys in the world! They are SO good with the boys, it’s amazing) then ran over to see Uncle Mike,  stopped to see Grandpa and then drove out to see our super good friends Claudy, PJ, and Gisele for some tricks or treats. Henry LOVED it and had a really good time. He’d walk up to the people with candy and say “Trick or Treating!” He got a lot of compliments on his costume which he loved, of course. The little ones stayed in the wagon for most of the night but were still able to score some candy. So, other than a couple meltdowns, the boys did really well. I was pleasantly suprised at what a good time we had…and it has really made me excited for next year! Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!

The next Armstrong
Will's not sure what to think!
Ready to go ham it up
I seriously cannot believe we made such cute kids...

Adorableness X 2
Lil' G and Will in their limousine
Ok, NOBODY does Halloween better than Holly and Scott, but this guy came pretty damn close. He's Freddy Krugar and he's freaking scary!! He made the kids walk around the table to him... and when they were right infront of him just about to get their candy...
This crazy clown jumped out with a CHAINSAW!! It was HYSTERICAL. People were basically jumping over or through the tables to get away. I was really proud of Henry...he walked right up to Freddy and said "Trick or Treating!" So funny. That scary clown was nice and didn't try to kill him...probably cuz he was a little one. =)
Back at the house, Lil G and Tommy relaxin'
Will was happy to get his costume off...
And of course Henry was scarfing down his candy...=)
